New Delhi, Feb 19 : The Central Bureau of Investigation probing the multi-crore 2G Spectrum scam, today questioned a relative of former Telecom Minister Andimuthu Raja in the case.
''Rangarajan was questioned in the 2S Spectrum scam. This is a routine part of the ongoing investigation in the case,'' a CBI official said.
Raja and Shahid Balwa, promoter of Swan Telecom are in judicial custody in the case till March 3.
Raja was arrested by the CBI on February 2, after his questioning at the CBI headquarters here.
As per the CBI, the irregularities in the allocation of Spectrum licenses has caused a pecuniary loss of Rs 22,000 crore to the state exchequer.
Raja is accused of providing benefit to several specific companies by allotting them 2G Spectrum licenses at throwaway prices by violating norms.
The 2G scam, according to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report, has caused a presumptive loss of up to Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the state exchequer.
Speeding up its probe into the case, CBI has been grilling top bosses of several companies, including Tata Realty, S-Tel, Loop, Unitech and DB Realty.
''Several people including officials of different firms are being questioned and several people have been called for questioning,'' the official said.
However, the CBI official did not divulge the names of those people who have been called.
Anil Ambani, chairman of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), and Essar Group CEO Prashant Ruia have also appeared before the premier investigating agency.
Mr Ambani appeared before the CBI at its headquarters to ''clarify ongoing issues'' related to the allotment of the Spectrum licenses.
The CBI has arrested four people in the case so far-- Raja, his personal secretary RK Chandolia, former Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura and Shahid Balwa.
The Supreme Court, which is monitoring the investigation, has directed the CBI to go after all illegal beneficiaries of the irregularities in the license allocation.
